TIDEWATER CONDUCTING SUMMIT & COMPETITION

June 12 – 16, 2024 | Old Dominion University – Norfolk, VA 
Full Program Tuition: $850.00 (includes dorm housing, scholarships available)
Auditor: $30.00 per day
Program Highlights: Participants will work with Dr. Kevin Sedatole, Director of Bands at Michigan State University, and conduct Newfound Chamber Winds in the inaugural Tidewater Conducting Competition. Conductors will receive 90+ minutes of podium time and two videos of concert footage during competition rounds. Finalists will conduct a live performance in the concluding concert of the summit.

Katie McCaffrey, Tidewater Conducting Summit Intern

Katie McCaffrey is a music educator and performer in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Since 2019, Katie has maintained her own private trombone studio; she has also served as Grafton High School Band’s marching and visual coordinator. Katie is also an active trombone player in many Hampton Roads ensembles, including the Virginia Wind Symphony and the Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble. Katie continues her research in music education through acting as the co-host of music education podcast Band Banter: Unfiltered, which seeks to share authentic perspectives from members of the music education community.

Katie graduated from Old Dominion University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Music, concentrating in Instrumental Music Education. She is continuing her education at Old Dominion University by completing her Master of Music Education degree with an applied concentration in Wind Conducting, studying under Dr. Tyler Austin.
